The Art of Marriage

The Art of Marriage, by Wilfred Peterson

A good marriage must be created.
In the art of marriage the little things are the big things...

It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say, "I love you" at least once each day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is in giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

This essay was first read at my courthouse wedding 12/31/07 by the JP who married my hubby and me. I had NEVER heard it, but loved it. I asked him for a copy of what he read.

My hubby and I then had a church wedding on 6/9/08. I asked to have this same essay read by the Officiant to our wedding guests.

It is just so full of wisdom that makes you think about what a marriage should REALLY be. And it IS an art...something to cherish with each other.

My husband and I have been married to other people in the past, but we honestly feel THIS is going to work. Reading this essay helps us realize what is HONESTLY important in our marriage.

Thank you for posting it!
